Eastman Theatre History -The Eastman Theatre, though newly renovated and expanded, boasts a long, rich history. Opened as an arts center on September 2, 1922 at the corner of Main and Gibbs Streets, the Eastman Theatre was established as a center for the performance of silent film and accompanying orchestrations, music and dance. Today, the state-of-the-art music hall has been rechristened "Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre" in honor of a donation by Eastman Kodak Inc. in the amount of $10 million dollars.
The Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre is the main concert stage for Eastman School's superstar student performers, including large ensembles, jazz groups and orchestras, which seats 3,094 concert goers in downtown Rochester, New York. Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra -The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 1922 and is based in downtown Rochester, New York at the Italian Renaissance-style Eastman Theatre at Kodak Hall.
